Holds Charter Meeting

 November, 2000:  Thirteen women from Stephenson & JoDaviess Counties gathered in the Freeport Public Library meeting room to form what would become Upper Northwest Illinois Republican Women.  The charter members agreed they wanted to make a difference in their community, their county, their state, and their country.

UNIRW’s first event!  Lynn Cheney would make an appearance at the 'get out the vote' rally at Cliffbreakers, Rockford, IL.  We were asked to find an undecided voter to attend a Lynn Cheney reception  following the rally.  Needless to say, the undecided voter told television news that Mrs. Cheney convinced her to vote for George Bush and the Republican Party.

REPUBLICAN WOMEN CELEBRATE STOCKTON 4TH OF JULY

     Despite the welcomed rain Upper Northwest Illinois Republican Women put on a sunny face as they sold patriotic jewelry & GOP Blend Coffee.  "We enjoy Stockton 4th of July Celebrations!  It is a time to visit new and old friends, eat great food, enjoy the entertainment and the fireworks," says Club President Talena Wuebbels.
    Club members are participating in the Illinois Family Institute & Protect Marriage Now referendum drive to collect signatures for the 2006 Spring Election.  The referendum will allow Illinois voters to define the definition of marriage.

                  Boyer/McLeRoy Appreciation Reception

     Stephenson County residents were able to thank and reminisce with retiring Stephenson County Board Chairman Boyd Boyer and former Freeport Mayor and County Board Member Mark McLeRoy, at an appreciation reception sponsored by Upper Northwest Illinois Republican Women.
     With over 100 years of public service between them, Boyer & McLeRoy met with family members and many well-wishers. 
     "I wanted to thank Mark McLeRoy for helping me get my house: said one woman as she waited in the reception line.
     It ws a memorable night for two men who helped shape the history of Freeport and Stephenson County.
